Caring For My Braces: Retainers
Wear your retainers full time and that includes sleeping, until the doctor instructs otherwise. Remove them only for eating and brushing your teeth.
If your retainers are lost or broken call us immediately. Replacement retainers can be costly; therefore please take care of them.
Before eating, please take your retainers out and put them into their box. Please do not forget to bring your retainer box wherever you go.
A very common mistake is that one forgets to bring their retainer box and therefore, wrap the retainers in napkins, leave them on the restaurant table and forget about them when they leave.
Clean retainers everytime you brush your teeth with a tooth bud and hand soap. DO NOT use toothpaste as it will scratch the surface of the retainers. Soak the retainers in a denture cleanser (ie. POLIDENT) once a week. It removes the plaque, and eliminates odors.
Retainers are made out of plastic, they can melt or warp when exposed to any kind of heat including hot water, the clothes dryer,or the sun.
Keep your retainer away from your pets, they love to chew on them.
Remove your retainers when playing sports and swimming.
If you have any questions or concerns about your retainers, or your retainers are loose, please call us. Do not try to adjust them yourself.
Always bring your retainers to your appointments.
